Eat Right

Have you ever heard that what you eat is what you get?

When you eat healthy food, your body will stay healthy as the food is easily digested.
When you eat oily food, your body has to work extra hard to digest the food and fat will start to gather in your blood vessels and in your body.

A good, balanced diet will provide our cells with the most basic building blocks to build new and healthy cells.

The above Food pyramid serves as a good guide on how our daily diet should be. (Go though the different food groups.) Dr Myron Wentz likes to say, “Eat Low in the Food Chain.”.

Processing and cooking often destroys a lot of the nutrients. So we should not only strive to eat lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains – but also in as raw a form as we can get. An example is to eat steamed fish instead of fried fish.

Finally, variety is the key. It is better to eat a little of many types of fruits and vegetables, than a lot of two or three types. This way, we achieve the balance of nutrients that our cells need. I heard from my friend that we should take at least 5 different colors of vegetables and fruits each day.

We should ask ourselves, when deciding on what to eat; do we think “delicious” or “healthy”?

Do you choose the top part or the lower part of the picture for your lunch?

I know, I know. The top part of the picture appears more attractive and appetizing:) Often, unhealthy food appears more attractive. We have been accustomed to the taste of fat, oil, deep frying, and generous amounts of sugar, salt and spices.

So the first step in taking charge of your health involves mentally committing to eating right.
